I think it's a good thing that these lab centres around the world are trying to promote dialogue between researchers and policy makers on this problem, as their website suggests. Seems to me that most previous responses to poverty, like terrorism, were based largely on the emotional appeal rather than academic analyses. But I guess one might also find critics of (or reasons to ignore) such 'cold philosophy' as Keats put it.
