Low-tech solutions change the world
The New York Times has an excellent section Small Fixes: Low cost innovations that can save thousands of lives. One example are Liquid Lens, self-adjustable eyeglasses, developed by Joshua Silver, a physicist at Oxford.
I'm skeptical. I can't find them on eBay. If they're that cheap, I'd like to play around with them (though I have astigmatism). A good pair of glasses usually costs me $50.
I have fun at work trying to use quantum many-body theory to understand electronic properties of complex materials.
I am married to the lovely Robin and have two adult children and a dog, Priya (in the photo). I also write an even more personal blog Soli Deo Gloria [thoughts on theology, science, and culture]
